Proof Load Testing

What is Proof Load Testing?

Proof load testing ensures that lifting equipment and accessories can safely sustain the specified load before being put into service or after repair or modification. At Lifting Gear and Safety, we deliver controlled proof tests that confirm structural integrity, verify performance, and provide traceable evidence for compliance and peace of mind.

How We Perform Proof Load Testing

Our engineers apply the load defined by the OEM or relevant standard, hold it for the prescribed duration, and inspect for deformation, defects, or functional issues. Tests often include verifying brakes, limit switches, and controls under load, and can be paired with non-destructive examination for a complete integrity assessment.

Equipment Covered

We conduct proof load testing on:

  • Cranes and hoists (overhead, jib, davit, gantry)
  • Lifting beams and spreader bars
  • Frames, lifting points, and padeyes
  • Slings, shackles, hooks, and eyebolts
  • Winches and bespoke assemblies

On-Site and Facility Testing

We perform proof load testing on-site using calibrated load cells, water weights, and test weights, or at our facility for complex fixtures and controlled environments. Every test includes:

  • Method statements and risk assessments
  • Exclusion zones and competent supervision
  • Calibrated measuring devices traceable to recognized standards

Compliance and Certification

On completion, you receive a detailed certificate and report covering:

  • Applied load and hold time
  • Set-up and measurements
  • Observations and corrective actions

We align every test with UK requirements such as LOLER, manufacturer instructions, and applicable BS/EN/ISO standards, advising on correct proof load factors for your equipment. Whether commissioning new installations or validating repairs, we deliver safe, efficient proof load testing that keeps your operations compliant and confident.
