Installing Lifting Structures To Ensure Safe And Smooth Operation

Permanent lifting structure installation demands careful planning, competent execution and clear verification. At Lifting Gear and Safety, we install swing jibs, overhead cranes and gantry systems end‑to‑end—from site assessment and foundation/interface preparation through mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning and certification—so your equipment is safe, compliant and ready for productive use.

We begin with a structured survey to confirm loads, duty cycles, clearances, fixings and building interfaces. Foundations and supports are verified or engineered, baseplates and anchors set to specification, and runway beams or tracks aligned with controlled tolerances. Our team assembles and erects structures using calibrated tools and WPS‑compliant welding where required, then fits hoists, trolleys, end carriages, rails, buffers, festoon or power feeds, isolators and control systems. Electrical works include functional wiring, limit switches, emergency stop circuits and protection devices, with correct labelling and lock‑off points.

Commissioning combines functional checks with proof load testing to verify structural integrity, hoist performance, braking and controls under load. We measure deflection, alignment and travel, set limits and overload protection, and validate slewing, traverse and lifting speeds. Where applicable, we pair load tests with targeted NDT of critical connections. All work is managed under method statements and risk assessments with exclusion zones and competent supervision, and our instrumentation is traceable to recognised standards.

Compliance is built in. Installations are aligned with UK requirements including LOLER and PUWER, BS 7121 for crane operations, relevant BS/EN standards for lifting equipment and structural steel (e.g., EN 1090), and manufacturer instructions. We support UKCA/CE conformity, provide technical files and handover documentation, and issue certificates and test reports covering applied loads, settings and observations. On completion, we brief your team on safe operation, inspection intervals and maintenance, and can set up planned servicing and re‑certification to keep your lifting structures performing safely over the long term.
